January 26, 2026 — The National Weather Service in Atlanta issued a Cold Weather Advisory for much of North and Central Georgia as dangerously cold conditions settled across the region Monday evening. The advisory is in effect from 8:00 p.m. Monday through 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, with extreme cold expected to impact travel, infrastructure, and public safety. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to range from around 5 degrees in portions of far northeast Georgia to near 20 degrees in east-central Georgia. Northwest winds of 6–12 mph will produce hazardous wind chills, with “feels like” temperatures between -5 and 5 degrees across much of north Georgia and 5 to 15 degrees in central Georgia. Lingering ice is not expected to significantly melt through at least Tuesday, and travel may remain hazardous, particularly in parts of northeast Georgia where black ice could form on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways. Scattered power outages continue in some areas, increasing the risk of cold-related illnesses and pipe bursts. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by early Tuesday afternoon under sunny skies.
