January 25, 2026 — Banks County Emergency Services is urging residents to stay off the roads as widespread icing continues to create extremely hazardous driving conditions across the county. Freezing rain and lingering ice have left major roadways slick and treacherous, significantly increasing the risk of crashes and vehicles leaving the roadway. Officials strongly advise residents to remain at home if at all possible and to limit travel to emergencies only as conditions remain unstable. Public safety crews continue to monitor conditions and respond as needed while prioritizing responder safety during this historic winter weather event.
