Ice Storm Warning Issued for Banks County as Dangerous Conditions Expected Through Monday

January 24, 2026 — Banks County Emergency Services, in coordination with Banks County Government and Banks County EMA & E-911, has announced that an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for the area following a GEMA/HS All Hazards Alert. According to the National Weather Service Peachtree City, the warning is in effect from 1:00 PM Saturday until 10:00 AM EST Monday. Forecasters expect significant icing, with total ice accumulations ranging from one-quarter of an inch to as much as one inch, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph across portions of north central and northeast Georgia. Officials warn that these conditions are likely to result in power outages, fallen trees, and dangerous or impassable travel, with impacts expected to affect the Monday morning commute. Residents are urged to restrict travel to emergencies only and to prepare for extended power outages by keeping essential supplies on hand. Those who must travel are advised to carry food, water, and a flashlight in their vehicles, and to monitor road conditions by dialing 5-1-1 for the latest updates.
