Banks County officials are urging residents to prepare immediately as an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Monday, with hazardous winter weather expected to significantly impact the area. According to Banks County Emergency Services, in coordination with Banks County Government and Banks County EMA & E-911, the approaching system could bring dangerous ice accumulations, leading to widespread power outages, downed trees and powerlines, and extremely hazardous travel conditions. Emergency officials warn that once icing begins Saturday afternoon, roadways may quickly become impassable, and response times for emergency services could be extended due to unsafe conditions.
Residents are strongly encouraged to complete preparations ahead of the storm, including stocking up on food, medications, and essential supplies, planning for several days without electricity, and ensuring pets and livestock are protected from the cold. Special consideration should be given to individuals who rely on electrically powered medical equipment. Officials emphasize that personal preparedness is critical, as icy conditions may limit the ability of first responders to reach emergencies promptly. Community members are advised to avoid travel once conditions deteriorate and to remain weather-aware by monitoring official updates as the storm approaches.
