At 10:53 p.m. on January 29th, firefighters from the Town of Westport responded to a fire in a residential building on Weathervane Hill. Truck 1, the shift commander, and several engines of firefighters were sent out. When the shift commander arrived, he reported a working fire and significant smoke coming from the back of the house. Before firefighters arrived, it was established that every resident had left the house safely.
As the fire spread to the first floor, truck and engine companies launched a fire attack through the front of the house. Additional hose lines were deployed to the rear to limit fire spread toward the second floor, while other units established a water supply and supported interior operations. Crews were able to bring the main body of fire under control and continued to extinguish remaining hot spots. Norwalk Fire Department responded as a rapid intervention team, while Fairfield and Wilton provided station coverage. Westport EMS, Police, and DPW assisted on scene. A family of five was displaced, and the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
