The Oradell Fire Department was called to the Grove Street location on January 16th in order to access the Hackensack River for an ice rescue involving two people who were stuck on a river island. In order to safely reach the island and return both people to the mainland, firefighters used an ice rescue sled. Operations were carried out in accordance with established cold-water and ice rescue protocols, paying close attention to ice conditions and responder safety.

In order to help with situational awareness during the rescue, the department collaborated with Oradell Emergency Management, which offered aerial support utilizing a drone fitted with thermal imaging. All parties were securely assisted, and the incident was handled without any injuries.
