January 24, 2026 — The Essex Fire Department participated in statewide firefighter training on Friday, providing water supply support during a live flashover training exercise for Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Call/Volunteer Firefighter Training Program Class #123.
Essex Fire Department Tanker 1 responded to the training site and assisted Hamilton Fire Department Engine 2 in establishing and maintaining a sustained water supply for the high-intensity training evolution. The exercise is part of the rigorous 240-hour program required for recruits attending nights and weekends.
The Call/Volunteer Firefighter Training Program prepares firefighters to meet national standards under NFPA 1010, Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. Upon successful completion, recruits earn Firefighter I/II certification.
Essex Fire Department currently has four members enrolled in this year’s class. Department leadership emphasized that supporting hands-on training opportunities strengthens firefighter readiness, safety, and regional cooperation.
