Magnolia, NJ — Jan. 7 — When a downed and arcing electrical distribution line was reported in the Otter Branch sector of the first-due area, members of Magnolia Fire Company 29 responded as Squad Company 29. Due to the line's contact with the road, there was a localized power outage and an electrical hazard.

Until the line was securely de-energized, firefighters secured the area, created a safety perimeter, and worked with Public Service Electric and Gas. Crews put out the burning asphalt caused by the arcing wire when it was determined that the situation was safe. Later, the impacted area had power again. Residents were warned by fire authorities to call 911 right away, regard all downed wires as electrified, stay at least 100 feet away, and keep others clear until utility technicians arrive.
