Heavy snowfall can quickly bury hydrants, making them challenging to see and access during emergencies, according to fire authorities. Blocked hydrants can delay firefighters from establishing a water supply, costing valuable time when seconds matter most.

Residents are encouraged to identify the hydrant closest to their home or business and maintain a clear space of at least three feet around it, along with a clear path to the street. This simple step helps ensure faster fire protection and improved safety for neighbors and responders alike.
