The Hammonton Fire Department warns locals that although playing hide-and-seek on a snowy day is entertaining, snow shouldn't cover fire hydrants. When time is of the essence, firefighters may be delayed by blocked hydrants. Any hydrant close to a home should have a 3-foot perimeter cleared, and residents are advised to shovel a clear way from the hydrant to the street. In an emergency, this enables crews to quickly reach a water source. During a fire, seconds count, and having quicker access to hydrants can help. A neighbor's house or your own could be the scene of the emergency. We appreciate your contribution to the safety of the Hammonton community throughout the winter.
