WAYNE, NJ — December 26 — Ex-Chief William "Butts" Butler passed away, and the Community Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc. honored a longstanding fire service leader who worked in Wayne Township for many years. Butler was well-known for his dependable leadership and dedication to his work as the chief of the Packanack Lake Fire Department.


Butler promoted cooperation across township companies, training, and firefighter safety during his tenure. He was frequently commended with encouraging teamwork during emergency operations and mentoring junior members. Fire authorities observed that his impact went beyond calls, influencing the preparation and culture of the department. As the community recalls Butler's years of service and leadership, members around Wayne considered Butler's commitment to public service and sent condolences to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters.
