PATERSON, NJ — January 5 — Units from the City of Paterson Fire Department were sent to 81 East 39th Street in response to several reports of a building fire. When Battalion 2 arrived, they sent out a second alert after discovering intense fire on the second level of the abandoned Barbour Mansion, extending toward the roof.
Because of the building's setback, Ladder 3 was placed in the driveway while engine companies launched an interior assault. Later, when master streams were put into operation to put out the fire, crews were pulled out. Firefighters returned inside the building to finish the last extinguishment once things had improved. Before the fire was contained, operations went on for a few hours. Units were freed after situations settled and no injuries were recorded.
