January 5, 2026 — At approximately 7:33 a.m., the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a residence on West Kennedy Drive for a reported residential fire alarm. The alarm company advised that a heat detector and hallway smoke alarm had activated. Patrol officers from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department arrived and located light smoke coming from an unoccupied home. Rescue 1517 from Cardiff responded with a crew, and upon arrival, Cardiff Assistant Chief Craig Thompson assumed command and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Additional assistance was requested from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department, and Northfield City Fire Department. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke from an attached garage, made entry, extinguished the fire, checked for extension, and ventilated the structure. The fire was investigated by the Egg Harbor Township fire investigator, and no injuries were reported. Damage was confined to the garage, credited to the early detection provided by the monitored fire alarm system. Firefighters were supported on scene by the Egg Harbor Township Rescue Squad and Police Department.
