Late-Night Garage Fire Contained on Ivins Avenue Despite Challenging Conditions

December 20, 2025 — At approximately 10:16 p.m., members of the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to the 4000 block of Ivins Avenue for a reported structure fire. Engines 1512 and 1516 and Rescue 1517 responded from Cardiff with crews. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a single-story detached garage fully involved, with fire threatening to spread to a nearby residence. Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze while facing difficult weather conditions and a limited water supply. A tanker from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company and an engine from the Northfield City Fire Department were requested and responded to assist with suppression operations. The fire was brought under control and did not extend to the adjacent home. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated on scene. The incident was investigated by the EHT Fire Investigations Bureau. Firefighters were supported on scene by the EHT Rescue Squad and the EHT Police Department. The incident commander was Cardiff Chief Bill Danz III.
