December 20, 2025 — Lewiston Fire Department responded to two separate building fires on December 20, with incidents reported on Grove Street and Sabattus Street. Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish both blazes while managing additional calls for service across the city. The Grove Street fire remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Sabattus Street fire was investigated by Lewiston fire investigators and was determined to be accidental in nature, caused by an electrical issue.
Department officials thanked surrounding fire departments that provided coverage within the city and assisted with additional incidents during a particularly busy week that saw five fires handled by Lewiston crews.
