The Binghamton Fire Department responded to an unusual rescue involving a squirrel in danger earlier on December 25. Following reports of an animal trapped on the edge of a trash, Quint 2, Group B was sent out. When firemen arrived, they discovered the squirrel's head stuck in a tiny drain hole. The situation had previously been calmed by Binghamton Police Department officers. Police moved quickly to start the first extrication procedures before the fire department could arrive. Firefighters used patience and care to safely free the animal without causing injury. Once released, the squirrel quickly ran off, appearing unharmed.
