STOTTVILLE, NY — December 23 — Authorities kept an eye on a battery energy storage facility fire that started in the Village of Warwick on Friday night. Despite a decline in fire activity, pollutants from the site continue to pose a threat to public safety.

Since 2023, the facility has experienced two fires. The Town of Warwick implemented a moratorium on new battery energy storage facilities after the last event, and this ban is still in effect. The location and the surrounding areas have been continuously monitored for air quality by Orange County HAZMAT, which has not yet reported any alarming results. On-site surveillance is still being conducted by members of the Town of Warwick Police Department and Warwick Fire Department. Public health and safety are still the top priorities, according to town officials, and updates will be given as circumstances demand.
