As winter weather continues to produce dangerous walking surfaces around the area, the Allentown Volunteer Fire Company sent out an ice safety alert to locals. Driveways, shaded places, and untreated sidewalks may become quite slick, raising the possibility of accidents and injury. Residents were advised by fire authorities to preserve their balance by taking short, steady steps, wearing shoes with high grip, and keeping their hands out of their pockets. Simple but practical measures were also emphasized, such as expecting that shaded areas would be ice and using handrails and supports when available. The department advised avoiding unnecessary walking during icy conditions whenever possible, noting that even a minor slip can result in a serious injury.
