Middletown, NJ — December 31 — A significant water main break at the intersection of East Road and Leonardville Road close to Campbell's Junction prompted the Middletown Township Fire Department, police, and EMS to respond. Significant utility damage and roadway flooding were caused by the break. About 200 homes were impacted when JCP&L turned off the electricity as a precaution. Leonardville Road between Waterview Drive and Hopping Road was closed, as was East Road from Park Avenue. The Middletown Township Public Library was established as a warming center to assist displaced citizens. While emergency personnel maintained scene safety, traffic control, and coordination, New Jersey American Water staff worked to isolate the break by isolating the impacted valve.
