Keyport, NJ — December 21 — During a hectic period in late November and early December, the Keyport Fire Department dealt with local occurrences and provided mutual aid to nearby departments. Several private home fires, including an attached garage fire and a second-alarm event involving exposures, were attended to by crews. Additionally, units responded to gas odor complaints, worked at multiple fire alarms and helped at a sizable scrap yard fire. Apart from responding to fires, firemen also responded to car crashes, such as one on Route 36 that needed to be extricated, and they responded while returning from other jobs because of their close vicinity. During working incidents, the surrounding villages were covered by the station. According to department officials, teams were able to serve regional partners while keeping the borough safe thanks to mutual aid agreements and coordinated actions.
