As part of normal fire safety, the Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department is encouraging locals to inspect and clean their bathroom exhaust fans. Over time, dust and lint may accumulate in bathroom exhaust fans. When buildup restricts airflow, the motor can overheat, especially if the fan is left running for long periods or is poorly maintained. This condition can increase the risk of fire. Fire officials recommend turning fans off after use, cleaning dust and lint regularly, and considering a timer switch to prevent fans from being left on unintentionally. Older or malfunctioning units should be repaired or replaced.
