Perth Amboy, NJ — December 27 — The Perth Amboy Fire Department, which has its headquarters at 375 New Brunswick Avenue, was called to a reported fire in the 600 block of Cornell Street at the beginning of a snowfall. When the first units arrived, they discovered smoke coming from a single-family home's attic. While main searches were being conducted, crews extended two hose lines and attempted to contain and put out the fire. There were no reported injuries, and every occupant was present. The department's Fire Investigation Unit looked into the event, and the building was ventilated. The American Red Cross and the city relocation officer helped five displaced residents. Engines 1 and 2, Truck 2, Rescue 1, Chiefs 1, 2, 4, and 5 were among the responding units; during operations, Engine 4 covered the entire city.
