HOUSE AND CAMPER DESTROYED IN BLAZE

Selden NY. just before 5pm on Saturday Jan 2,2021 firefighters were alerted to a reported structure fire at 57 Abinet ct in Selden. Chief of the department Will Cotty arrived to find a fully engulfed house and a camper in driveway. Chief cotty was advised the home owners were out of building to rear of house and were being stopped by Police Officer Kalletta from reentering the home to search for dog and he took them to rear of home to a safe area as any access to the front of home was blocked by fire. The police officer was bit by the dog and was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital .Chief Cotty reactivated his department for a working fire and began mutual aid departments consisting of Centereach,Coram,Farmingville,Setauket,Terryville to the scene and Medford to cover any calls for Selden. Asst Chief Keith Kostrna and Farmingville firefighter Rich Piccirello rescued the first dog and handed the dog off to Selden ems who were trying to revived the dog and rushed it to Selden Animal hospital giving it o2 in the back of the police cruiser. The dog is expected to recover due to the actions of Selden ems personnel . The fast moving blaze was aggressively attacked with multiple lines and from above by TRUCK 2 Seldens brand new tower. Firefighter did battle the red devil for over 1 hr before it was deemed under control and would remain on scene for several hours mopping up hot spots and doing secondary searches for a second dog which was able to escape the blazre on its own and was found safe a short time later.
