New Year's Day 5-Alarm Inferno Rips Through Roselle Park Warehouse

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On New Year’s Day, at approximately 1640 hours, the Roselle Park fire department was dispatched to Valley Rd for a fire. As units called in service, they had a heavy column of smoke in the air. Upon the arrival of the Chief,s they had heavy fire through the roof and throughout a two-story 75 x 2 50 warehouse with multiple exposure issues surrounding. A 2nd, 3rd, and 4th alarm were quickly transmitted due to the heavy amount of fire and multiple exposures. Multiple ladder pipes, deck, guns, and ground monitors were placed into service to try to knock the fire down. As it was happening, multiple explosions were occurring, as well as live powerlines falling. Companies hada fire, and the Bravo1 exposure initiated an offensive attack in that building. Because the fire was rapidly and intensively spreading, multiple fire apparatus had heavy heat, and crews were forced to abandon them and cool them down. Crews continued to try to knock down the fire when the 5th alarm was transmitted. Companies also found multiple hazardous materials burning and required all members operating around the structure to be on air. Nearly 200 firefighters, dozens of apparatus, thousands of feet of hose, 3 aerial master streams, multiple deck guns, ground monitors, and hand-lines operated on scene and were on scene for hours during the night, knocking down the fire and hitting hotspots.
