On December 22, at around 8:30 p.m., the North Plainfield Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at 217 Meadowbrook Drive in North Plainfield Borough by requesting mutual assistance station support from the Watchung Volunteer Fire Department. Engine 603 was diverted straight to the fireground while en route, where Watchung personnel helped operational companies with overhaul and salvage. Watchung units collaborated with Plainfield Firefighters FMBA Local 7 and North Plainfield Professional Firefighters, Local 2958, for almost an hour.
Additionally, the Watchung Volunteer Fire Department reminds locals that volunteers are essential to maintaining Watchung's reputation as one of the greatest places to live. For almost 115 years, the department has successfully maintained 100% volunteerism, 24/7, 365 days a year, and is now welcoming new members. Residents of Watchung and the surrounding towns are eligible to join. At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 16 years old. To find out more about joining the department, interested parties are urged to send an email to RECRUITMENT@WATCHUNGFD.ORG.
