ALBANY, NY - It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of our Union Vice President and brother, Firefighter/Paramedic Edward Verhoff. Ed passed away at his home in Albany after completing his work tour on Saturday, November 12th.

Ed's impact on our union was significant and will be felt for many years to come. His dedication to the success and safety of our members was constant, and he would always go out of his way to make sure everyone knew that. Ed rose through the ranks of our executive board quickly to his current role as VP. His firm belief and steadfast work with organized labor was one of the cornerstones that Ed believed in. He would frequent IAFF conventions and various classes, along with working with the local Albany Labor federation. His hours given to our unions betterment are countless.

Somehow between his dedicated work for our union and labor, he found time to lead as a Scoutmaster at Boy Scout Troop 1083 where his two sons were following in his footsteps to become Eagle Scouts, which Ed was very proud of. Ed was also a Hibernian, the 14th ward leader in Albany and involved heavily in the Albany County Democratic committee.

Ed's current assignment to the Rescue Squad, stationed at the Arbor Hill Fire Station, on C platoon, was his last assignment in his 16-year Fire Department career. Anyone that worked with Ed knew they were going to laugh. He loved the firehouse and loved the guys he worked with.

Ed's true loves and passion in life were his wife and two sons. Kim, Edward “Ej”, and Liam, we can’t imagine the pain and confusion you’re dealing with. Know that all 260 members of the Albany Fire Department grieve his loss with you.
