Swansea, MA — October 8 — The Swansea Fire Department wrapped up a week of school visits during Fire Prevention Week, bringing fire safety education to students at local schools throughout the community.

Firefighters convened with students to elucidate the critical role of smoke alarms, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining functional devices and guiding families on the formulation of comprehensive home escape strategies. The crews detailed fundamental fire safety protocols and facilitated a deeper understanding among the children regarding appropriate responses in the event of an alarm activation within their residences.

Furthermore, department members showcased their protective gear while elucidating its utilization by firefighters during emergency responses. These demonstrations facilitated student recognition that a firefighter retains their identity as a trained aid worker, even when obscured by masks and comprehensive protective attire. Additionally, students were afforded the opportunity to examine the department's fire apparatus in greater detail.

In alignment with the department's sustained public education initiatives, the Swansea Fire Department collaborated with the National Fire Protection Association throughout annual Fire Prevention Week, maintaining a regular cadence of visits to local schools to disseminate critical fire safety knowledge.

In addition, Massachusetts fire safety authorities urged households to develop comprehensive escape routes featuring two distinct exits from every room, alongside a predetermined outdoor rendezvous point. Residents were further instructed to conduct routine inspections of their smoke detectors and to rehearse these evacuation strategies collectively with all members of the family. The department extended its gratitude to the students, faculty members, and school personnel for their active participation in the visits.
