Westport, MA - Firefighters from the Westport Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance from Dartmouth, quickly suppressed an active vehicle fire inside a commercial auto repair facility along Route 6 on Thursday morning, preventing catastrophic structural extension in Bristol County.

Emergency responders were dispatched during the morning hours of Thursday, November 5, 2026, for a reported vehicle fire within the service bay of a repair garage on State Road (Route 6) in Bristol County. Prior to the arrival of fire apparatus, Westport Police Department officers deployed a dry chemical fire extinguisher to help check the initial spread of the flames.

Westport crews deployed aboard Engine 1, Rescue 2, Chief 1, and Chief 2, and were joined on scene by an engine company from Dartmouth Fire District 3. Firefighters stretched an interior attack line to completely extinguish the burning vehicle, while truck and support personnel systematically inspected the ceiling, attic spaces, and adjoining bays to confirm the fire had not extended into the commercial structure.

Firefighter/paramedics evaluated a garage employee on scene for minor smoke inhalation, with no additional injuries reported. Following an on-scene investigation, the Bristol County fire was determined to be accidental in origin.
