Orleans, MA - Personnel from Orleans Fire-Rescue completed intensive hands-on practical training focused on vertical ventilation, structural cutting, and modern battery-powered tool operations across Barnstable County.
The specialized sessions, conducted during the week of Saturday, October 31, 2026, were led by certified fire instructors from the Barnstable County Government’s Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training in compliance with established National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
Firefighters focused on mastering coordinated vertical and horizontal ventilation techniques, drilling extensively on aggressive roof venting, bulkhead opening, and cutting through heavy structural metal materials. Crews also evaluated and deployed the department's latest battery-powered rotary and reciprocating rescue saws under simulated fireground conditions.
Orleans fire officials emphasized that effective tactical ventilation rapidly releases superheated gases and toxic smoke from burning structures—drastically reducing the risk of flashover, enhancing interior survivability profiles for trapped occupants, and significantly increasing operating safety for interior attack teams across Barnstable County.
