Wappingers Falls, N.Y. — October 9 — On Friday, October 9, firefighters from the Hughsonville Fire Department visited three local schools as part of their annual Fire Prevention Detail.During the visit, students received hands-on instruction on fire safety and emergency preparedness.

The department’s team stopped by Wappingers Junior High School, Evans Elementary School, and Randolph Elementary School. Students were taught key safety tips applicable both at home and at school. They also had the chance to explore firefighting equipment, use a real fire hose, and tour the fire department’s emergency vehicles.

These interactive activities allowed students to learn more about the tools firefighters use and how emergency crews operate during crises.

The school visits also provided an opportunity for firefighters to explain how to identify potential hazards, follow safety protocols, and know the proper actions to take in an emergency.

Participants in the outreach included Chief Justin Jerrick, Deputy Chief William Beale, Lieutenants Kevin Geidel and Trevor Dhalla, EMS Lieutenant Thomas Gallman Sr., Past Chief Paul Rogers Jr., and Firefighters Joshua Gallman, Michael VanBuren, and Brandon Compasso.

The annual event strengthened the department’s community education initiatives and reinforced fire safety awareness among younger residents.

Fire prevention programs help children recognize potential dangers and encourage families to talk about smoke alarms, escape routes, and emergency plans at home.

The Hughsonville Fire Department, based at 88 Old Hopewell Road in Wappingers Falls, continued its commitment to community education through these school visits.

The department expressed gratitude to school staff for their support and for welcoming firefighters to the program.
