Endicott, NY - A swift, coordinated response by the Endicott Fire Department prevented a vehicle fire from engulfing the passenger cabin of a truck Monday afternoon following initial 911 reports of a driver trapped inside.
Emergency personnel from Platoon 4 were dispatched at 3:16 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, sending Quint 25 and Squad 25—staffed by a total of six on-duty firefighters—alongside the Endicott Police Department and Union Volunteer Emergency Squad to the intersection of North Street and Loder Avenue. While units were en route, responding police officers confirmed heavy smoke showing and an active, working vehicle fire.
Arriving on scene just four minutes post-dispatch, fire crews immediately verified police updates that the vehicle's occupants had safely exited and were not trapped. Firefighters encountered an advanced fire burning within the truck's engine bay, with flames threatening to breach the bulkhead wall and enter the cab.
Crews deployed a charged handline and initiated an aggressive exterior knock down, extinguishing the fire before significant thermal damage or extension could compromise the interior passenger compartment.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Department officials noted that the prompt four-minute turnaround from alarm to water application was decisive in containing the fire strictly to the mechanical bay, ensuring that had an occupant remained immobilized inside, rescue teams would have maintained a survivable environment to extract them safely.
