Glenham, N.Y. — October 9 — Dutchess Junction Fire Co.participated in a fire prevention event at Glenham Elementary School, joining other local fire departments. The event was designed to educate students on how to respond during emergencies and understand fire safety measures.
Active members Rick R. and Mike B.from the department attended and brought apparatus 37-61, nicknamed “Big Jim,” as well as Smokey Bear. Students were given the chance to view the equipment up close, learn about the duties of firefighters, and engage in fire safety education.
The firefighters used the opportunity to teach younger students what actions to take during an emergency and to recognize the important work done by local emergency services.
School-based outreach allows fire departments to introduce children to fire apparatus, explain emergency response procedures, and reinforce safety lessons that can be shared with families.
