Plattsburgh, N.Y. — October 19 — The District No.3 Fire Department carried on with its 2026 training schedule on Monday, participating in a hands-on vehicle extrication exercise that involved three vehicles and firefighters from five different departments.
During the session, firefighters worked in teams to practice methods for safely removing individuals from damaged cars after collisions. This exercise enabled them to use extrication tools, review established procedures, and practice coordination during simulated rescue scenarios.
The training included members from the District No. 3, South Plattsburgh, Cadyville, Morrisonville, and Cumberland Head fire departments. This collaboration allowed firefighters from nearby agencies to develop better communication and teamwork skills while tackling vehicle rescue challenges.
Integrity Towing Inc. organized the training and supplied the vehicles used in the drills. Having access to damaged vehicles provided firefighters with a realistic environment to practice extrication techniques and gain more experience with the tools used in actual rescue situations.
Vehicle extrication training is a key component of emergency response preparedness. Firefighters need to be able to evaluate vehicle damage, recognize potential dangers, secure the vehicle, and choose appropriate methods to reach those trapped inside. These joint exercises also help departments strengthen their working relationships, which is essential for effective coordination during mutual-aid operations.
The District No. 3 Fire Department, located at 128 Wallace Hill Road in Plattsburgh, continues to emphasize the importance of consistent training and collaboration with neighboring fire departments.
