September 2, 2026 — The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians has chosen the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department to receive the 2026 Volunteer Service of the Year Award.
Members will go to the EMS Expo and NAEMT national meeting on September 29 to accept the honor, the department announced.
Sherman Volunteer Fire Department EMS received recognition from NAEMT for providing all-volunteer emergency medical services to the remote Fairfield County town. The department employs about 35 EMTs and emergency medical responders and offers fire and ambulance services.
