Ansonia Expanded Its Vehicle Rescue Capabilities

Ansonia, CT — September 8 — The Ansonia Fire Department introduced a new battery-powered extrication tool into service on Tuesday, enhancing the department's ability to perform vehicle rescues for residents and commuters.This equipment was assigned to Eagle Hose & Hook and Ladder Company, where Engine 6 and Truck 7 are based.The tool provides firefighters with an additional method for cutting and spreading vehicles during extrication operations.Previously, Ansonia firefighters had relied on multiple rescue tools during incidents involving trapped motorists, such as the Beaver Street rollover in February 2025.

This new addition reflects the department's ongoing efforts to strengthen its rescue capabilities.

City officials had already approved the purchase of a new heavy rescue unit as part of a broader public-safety initiative.The Fire Commission oversees the department's operations, reviews its needs, and manages funding matters.Department officials expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Board of Fire Commissioners as the new equipment became operational.
