ALTON, NH — September 1, 2026 — After completing Firefighter I and Firefighter II and passing her Advanced EMT requirements, Cami Whitkens is being recognized by Alton Fire-Rescue.

Whitkens was named the department's member of the week in recognition of the education and training she received while honing her skills as an EMS provider and fireman.

The department claims that obtaining the National Advanced EMT credential and fireman certifications requires coursework, practical training, study, and other professional-development activities.

Whitkens's skill set now includes both fire and EMS certifications thanks to her increased training. Alton Fire & Rescue employs people that are certified in both fire and emergency medical services, and they receive training in both fields. Training and personnel have been regarded as essential components of the department's mandate, which includes providing fire, rescue, and medical services to Alton residents and visitors.
