Antrim, NH - First responders from Antrim Fire, Ambulance, and Police coordinated emergency medical stabilization and an urgent aeromedical evacuation Friday afternoon after an elderly resident suffered critical injuries in a household fall.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at 12:28 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, following reports that an 84-year-old woman had tumbled down a flight of stairs. Arriving crews located the victim unconscious at the base of the stairway, classifying her as a Status 2 trauma patient presenting with a severe head injury and substantial blood loss.
Paramedics immediately applied specialized trauma dressings to stem the bleeding while command requested the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) medical helicopter to establish an emergency landing zone at nearby Shea Field.
Responders packaged the patient onto a scoop stretcher, transferred her to an ambulance gurney, and initiated transport toward the waiting landing zone.
During the rapid transit across the Hillsborough County township, paramedics immobilized the patient's cervical spine, established two large-bore intravenous lines, infused fluids to counteract blood loss, and continuously managed bleeding control to stabilize her vitals en route.
Upon arrival at Shea Field, Antrim crews transferred care of the stabilized patient directly to the DHART flight crew, who airlifted her to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for advanced trauma treatment.
