ALTON, NH —  Alex and Aidan are the newest student interns at the Alton Fire Department, starting a two-year program that will allow them to pursue college degrees in Fire Science while learning about the fire and EMS industries.

The agency reports that the two students recently started their training by practicing hose deployments and acrophobia tests with department personnel. The collaboration, physical difficulties, technical skills, and confidence needed for safe fireground operations were introduced during the exercises.

As Alex and Aidan pursue degrees in Fire Science and obtain real-world experience in the fire department, the internship is anticipated to last for the next two years. Throughout the program, students will have the chance to train alongside department personnel, gain knowledge of emergency procedures, and acquire fundamental skills in emergency medical services and firefighting.

According to the department, the program's goal is to provide kids with an early glimpse at what it takes to become professional firefighters and EMS providers. Their study will be combined with practical experience and exposure to departmental operations during their training.

Student internship programs can give young individuals interested in a career in firefighting an opportunity to learn about department operations, acquire fundamental skills, and comprehend emergency response duties.

Both students were welcomed by Alton Fire, which stated that the department is eager to assist their growth as they pursue further study and training.
