NORTHAMPTON, MA — August 29, 2026 — Charlie Merrick, a firefighter and paramedic, is being congratulated by Northampton Fire Rescue on finishing the 10-week Career Recruit Program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Municipal firefighters receive the fundamental training required for career fire-service operations through the Career Recruit Program. The curriculum is described by the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy as an intense 10-week course that involves live-fire training, firefighter skills, physical fitness training, and classroom education.

As part of his ongoing professional development with Northampton Fire Rescue, Merrick finished the program. In a social media post on August 29, the department declared his successful completion.
