Attleboro, MA - A single-vehicle collision along Handy Street sent one motorist to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a car sheared a utility pole at its base, leaving live electrical lines draped directly across travel lanes.

Emergency personnel from the Attleboro Fire Department were dispatched to the vicinity of Handy Street and Doral Lane at approximately 1:42 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following reports of a vehicle into a pole.

First-arriving units encountered heavy front-end damage to the vehicle and confirmed that the impact had cleanly snapped the wooden utility pole, pulling active, energized power cables down into the street.

The vehicle's sole occupant had successfully self-extricated before emergency crews arrived. Attleboro Fire Department paramedics evaluated the driver on scene and initiated transport to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

Responders immediately isolated the surrounding area within the Bristol County neighborhood, keeping motorists and pedestrians clear of the electrocution hazard until National Grid technicians arrived to de-energize the wires and begin emergency infrastructure repairs.

Attleboro Fire units wrapped up scene safety operations by approximately 2:33 p.m., while the Attleboro Police Department took over the site investigation to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
