Tisbury, MA - Tisbury Fire Department conducted a specialized water rescue drill focused on emergencies involving water sports, giving firefighters an opportunity to practice techniques for safely approaching and assisting people in distress on the water.

The training centered on the challenges responders may face when dealing with individuals involved in water-based recreational activities. Crews focused on safe approaches, managing equipment and reducing the risk of additional injury during a rescue.

On August 13, firefighters participated in the evening exercise with guidance and instruction from Brock Callen, who shared practical insight on responding to water-related incidents and handling rescue situations safely.

As part of the drill, firefighters discussed and practiced how to approach a party in the water, safely remove equipment and gear, and prevent further injury while carrying out a rescue. The hands-on instruction was designed to help responders better understand the specific challenges that can arise during water sports emergencies.

The department emphasizd the value of realistic training exercises in preparing firefighters for incidents that can develop quickly and require careful coordination. Water rescues can involve difficult conditions, specializd equipment and additional hazards, making regular practice essential for maintaining responder readiness.
