WEST SENECA, NY — August 12 — Members of the Union Fire Company, which is part of the West Seneca Fire District 2, used their own family homes as training sites during a weekly EMS exercise designed to focus on patient assessment and treatment.

During the drill, the crews practiced handling various medical situations, including simulated diabetic emergencies, asthma attacks, allergic reactions, drug overdoses, breathing difficulties, and changes in mental status.

The hands-on approach enabled EMS personnel to gain experience in residential environments, allowing them to work through different patient presentations and make treatment decisions in a realistic setting.

This training also provided family members with a chance to observe how emergency responders handle medical incidents.

Following the drill, the firefighters returned to their duties and answered several EMS calls before concluding their day.

The Union Fire Company is based at 1845 Union Road and offers fire, EMS, rescue, and mutual-aid services in West Seneca.

The department regularly conducts in-house training for its members in EMS, firefighting, and rescue operations, and holds routine drills as part of its ongoing education program.
