LANCASTER, NY — August 10 — Members of the Town Line Volunteer Fire Department carried out their regular weekly training session, which included a practical exercise focused on vehicle extrication.The drill was designed to help firefighters create access for trapped individuals inside a vehicle.

During the training, firefighters used hydraulic cutters and spreaders, along with chains and cribbing, and reviewed various techniques for performing a “roll the dash” maneuver. This method entails moving the dashboard and steering column away from an occupant in order to create more space for safe removal.

The exercise allowed the firefighters to practice different extrication techniques, focusing on proper tool placement, stabilization, and team coordination. By using multiple methods, they were able to assess how vehicle damage and the position of the patient might influence the best way to carry out the rescue.

Ongoing hands-on training is crucial for effective vehicle rescue operations. Firefighters need to stay proficient with their equipment and be prepared to adjust their strategies based on the changing conditions at an accident scene.

The training took place at the Town Line Volunteer Fire Department, which is located at 6507 Broadway St., Lancaster, NY 14086. This continued practice helped the department members reinforce their technical skills and ensure they are ready for any emergency response situation.
