ELMA, NY — August 22 — The emergency services community expressed sadness over the passing of Tyler Schenck, a member of Seneca Hose Company #1, who lost his life in a single-vehicle car accident in the Town of Elma on August 22, 2026.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 10 p.m.

and included members from Blossom Volunteer Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.These groups worked together to handle the situation at the crash site.

Schenck was also involved with the Erie County Department of Health EMS Division, the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Hamburg EMS.

He had previously served with Reserve Fire Company.

His coworkers and fellow emergency responders described him as a kind and cheerful individual who was deeply dedicated to his work in emergency medical services and always eager to assist others.

His contributions spanned various parts of the emergency services network throughout Erie County.

Seneca Hose Company #1, based at 2801 Seneca Street in West Seneca, shared in the grief of Schenck’s family, friends, colleagues, and other first responders.
