HAMBURG, NY — September 2 — Scranton Volunteer Fire Company modified its training schedule on September 2, 2026, to focus on reviewing the department’s portable master stream equipment.

The exercise allowed firefighters to examine the equipment, discuss how it operates, and practice the factors to consider when deploying a portable master stream during an emergency. Firefighters gathered around the apparatus and equipment to review setup and operational procedures.

The training offered hands-on experience with equipment that can be used when a large volume of water is required during firefighting operations. Portable master streams are particularly useful when firefighters need to deliver a continuous water flow from a position outside a building or when interior operations are not feasible.

Changing the training plan due to weather conditions enabled members to continue practicing essential fireground skills rather than canceling the session. For emergency responders, adjusting drills based on available conditions provided another chance to stay familiar with equipment and maintain operational preparedness.
