NEWPORT, NY — August 7, 2026 —  Alongside locals, members of Newport Fire Company No. 4 took part in the Newport Free Library Finale, a summertime celebration held at the library. The occasion marked the end of the library's summer reading and programs. Traditionally, a community finale with games and refreshments for participating families marks the end of the library's summer reading season.

Throughout the event, children and families got the chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog and department personnel, and firefighters spent time interacting with attendees. The event gave firefighters another chance to interact with locals outside of public safety and emergency response.

In a social media post, Newport Fire Company No. 4 thanked everyone who attended the event and encouraged community members to share photos from the evening. The department noted that Sparky was among the highlights for many of the younger attendees. The event was part of the department’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and public outreach in the Newport area.
