WILLIAMSVILLE, NY — August 25 — Firefighters from the Main-Transit Fire Department participated in a training session that included instruction on elevator operations and fundamental firefighting techniques.

The first part of the training focused on handling elevator emergencies.

Firefighters learned how elevators operate and practiced manually opening elevator doors when standard controls are not accessible. The second part of the session covered hydrant operations, pump functions, hose-line management, and other essential tasks performed at the scene of a fire.

The training was led by Captain Jack Leising and Chris Feuz, who serves as the Main-Transit Safety Officer and is also a firefighter with the Buffalo Fire Department.

The exercise allowed the team to gain hands-on experience with equipment and to go over the procedures necessary for responding to emergencies.

The Main-Transit Fire Department is a volunteer-based organization that serves the Town of Amherst.

It offers fire protection, emergency medical services, and motor vehicle rescue within a 5.2-square-mile area. The department has over 90 active members and operates from two stations. Station 1 is located at 6777 Main Street according to Erie County records. This training helps firefighters stay proficient with their equipment and maintain their knowledge of operating procedures.
