WILLIAMSVILLE, NY — August 22 — Main-Transit Fire Department responders participated in training focused on handling medical emergencies related to athletes.

Nick Darling, the athletic trainer from Williamsville South High School, guided the training by explaining common sports injuries and demonstrating how to safely remove a football helmet and shoulder pads from a player who may have a neck injury.

The responders then conducted training at Stumpf’s Gymnastics Center, where they practiced removing an injured athlete from a foam pit.

This exercise involved considering access points, moving the patient safely, and using a rescue device while navigating the environment of the pit.

Main-Transit Fire Department is a fully volunteer-based organization that serves the Town of Amherst.

The department offers fire, emergency medical services, and motor vehicle rescue services and operates from two stations.The main station is located at 6777 Main Street in Williamsville, as listed by Erie County.

Stumpf’s Gymnastics Center is situated at 2187 Wehrle Drive in Williamsville.
