LANCASTER, NY — August 22 — Junior firefighters from the Lancaster Fire Department participated in a training session on August 22, organized by the Lancaster/Alden Fire Chiefs Association at the Bowmansville Volunteer Fire Association.

Firefighters from Lancaster, Bowmansville, Depew, Twin District, and Millgrove took part in practical training exercises focused on rescue skills.

The training featured equipment from the Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, including a survival trailer and a forced-entry simulator.Additional sessions covered vehicle extrication techniques, initial company operations, hydrant basics, and first aid provided by Lancaster Ambulance.

The extrication training included hands-on activities such as using Jenga and eggs to teach participants how to control tools effectively.

The day ended with a water-ball tournament, followed by dinner and award presentations. The Lancaster Fire Department runs a Junior Firefighter program for youth aged 14 to 18.

The program offers training that prepares participants for a career in firefighting once they reach the age of 18. FASNY also supports youth programs as a way to introduce young people to volunteer fire service. The department's headquarters is located at 5423 Broadway Street.
