ELMA, NY — August 26 — Jamison Road Volunteer Fire Company honored Junior Firefighter Ryan Geiser on August 26 for completing the New York State Basic Exterior Firefighter Operations (BEFO) and Interior Firefighter Operations (IFO) programs during the summer.

The BEFO and IFO courses are central to New York's Firefighter I training.

The course covers key skills such as the use of personal protective equipment, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), understanding fire behavior, effective communication, hose and water supply operations, search and rescue techniques, forcible entry, ventilation, and coordinated fire attack strategies.

New York State's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has approved the BEFO/SCBA-IFO Firefighter I series as a recognized firefighter training program.

Geiser's successful completion of these courses marked a significant milestone in his growth as a firefighter and contributed to the foundational training necessary for ongoing involvement in emergency operations.
